Leon R. Gaither is a veteran of the U.S. Army. He enlisted and served as a supply clerk/unit armorer at Ft. Hood Texas and Camp Casey, Korea. Upon leaving active service Leon joined the Army Ready Reserves, attended USAR 91B Medical specialist course and served as a medic at Walter Reed Army hospital in Washington, D.C. He attended the University of Maryland and became a cadet in Howard University's ROTC Leadership Development program. Leon 'was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Maryland National Guard where he served as an Infantry officer. He graduated from Maryland with a B.S. degree in Zoology, attended US Army Field Artillery School Officer Basic Course (FAOBC) at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma and the US Army Airborne School, Parachutist Course at Ft. Benning, Georgia. He was stationed at Warner Barracks Bamberg, Germany for 4 years, was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and served as Fire Direction Officer and Battalion Motor Officer. Upon returning to CONUS Leon joined the Florida National Guard, was promoted to the rank of Captain and served in the 2/116 FA Battalion as the Adjutant, Fire Direction Officer and Motor Officer.
Since 1993 Leon has been active in secondary and post-secondary education. He is a licensed Science educator and has taught middle school, high school and college students in traditional public schools, virtual schools, alternative schools and at-risk charter schools for eighteen years. He believes that all students can learn if motivated. Leon earned a Masters in Science Education from the University of Central Florida and a Masters in Educational Leadership from the Teacher Education University where he currently teachers graduate students online.
Leon has served as the Assistant Principal of a charter school for at-risk high school students where he helped to direct the school through a charter renewal and a transition from a management directed school to a self-directed school.
After attending a round table event sponsored by the Obama administration, Leon readily agreed to join 1st Veterans' Kids Care a not-for-profit, 50l( c)(3) based in Central Florida and served as President of the Board of Directors. He was inspired to act after seeing how the organization was motivated to serve, support, and advocate for children in need and has a goal to improve the physical, emotional, financial, and social circumstances of children and provide them direct services by partnering with veteran organizations, private organizations and educational institutions.
Leon is currently serving as Title One Coordinator providing instruction services and educational expertise in reading and mathematics, diagnosing learning skill deficits using instructional delivery methods, consulting with school personnel to coordinate efforts in providing services to students.
Leon was introduced to the WFG business platform and recognized the opportunity this company affords him of achieving the dream of owning his own business and helping people from all walks of life build a better future.
Leon's greatest strengths arc his creativity, his drive and his leadership. He thrives on challenges, particularly those that expand the organizations reach. He has a talent for teaching people how to cut through all the noise and just do the things that matter.
Born and raised in Olney, Maryland Leon now lives in Orlando, Florida with his wife and best friend Katrina and their daughter Jordan. In his free time, Leon likes to play the guitar, golf, ride his bicycle and take long walks.
